High On Bars (“we”, “us”) is a community site where people rate and review Kenyan hip hop. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your username, email address and password (stored in scrambled form, never as plain text) when you sign up.
- Ratings and reviews: the scores and written reviews you post, with the date.
- Messages and submissions: what you send through the Contact form or the Submit a Song form, including your name, email and any files you upload.
- Technical information: your IP address is stored with ratings, reviews and form submissions and is used to prevent spam and abuse.
- Cookies: small files in your browser that keep you logged in and remember which songs you have rated and which battles you have voted in, so you cannot vote twice.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your ratings and reviews.
- To work out song, album and artist averages and rankings.
- To reply to your messages and review song submissions.
- To protect the site from spam, fake ratings and abuse.
- To send you news and updates about High On Bars by email, unless you opt out.
We do not sell your personal information.
Marketing messages
When you create an account, we will use your email address to send you news about High On Bars, new features, announcements and offers from us. We tell you this on the Sign Up form.
- You can opt out at any time. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or email us at highonbaars@gmail.com. We will stop sending marketing emails within a reasonable time.
- We do not sell or give your email address to other companies for their own marketing.
- Service messages are different. We will still send messages needed to run your account, such as password reset emails, even if you have opted out of marketing.
- SMS: we do not currently collect mobile numbers or send SMS messages. If we start, we will ask for your number separately and will only message you if you agree.
What is public
Your username, written reviews and the content you submit may be visible to other visitors. Your email address and password are never shown publicly.
Third parties
Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google when you visit. Our hosting provider stores the site’s data on our behalf. We may use an email service to send account emails.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and content until you ask us to delete it. We may keep limited records where needed to prevent abuse or meet legal duties.
Your rights
Under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Email us at highonbaars@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
This site is not intended for anyone under 18. Please do not create an account if you are under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
